Clothing Optional

Kehena Beach
Not legally clothing optional, but a lot of folks there go sans suits. No facilities, water, food, although there are a few (expensive) ammenities available at nearby Kalani Honua, a conference center. Watch your valuables.
Directions: Turn left at the old Kalapana intersection and go about 3 miles North. There is a small parking lot on the makai (ocean) side of the road.

Recreational
Anaeho'omalu Beach
Pronounced A NA-AY HO O MAH LOO, the beach takes its name from the fish ponds behind - one of the finest remaining examples of ancient Hawaiian aquaculture. Anaeho'omalu is one of the best recreational beaches on the island. Excellent for windsurfing, swi mming, snorkling, scuba diving. Please respect the rights of other users - don't windsurf over swimmers. Swimmers should keep a sharp lookout for boats and boards. Reach it by taking Waikoloa Beach Drive off Queen Ka'ahumanu Hwy (Hwy 19).

Secluded
Green Sands Beach
This is worth finding. You'll need a 4-wheel drive and stamina
Address: All The Way South, then turn left,

Snorkling
Two Step
Some of the best snorkling in Kona is off this lava shelf next to Honaunau Boat Ramp. Find Honaunau town in District of Kona, turn makai (seaward) on only large road leading off Hwy 11 (across from Merv's convenience store). Turn left at Pu`uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park sign (It's a big stone thing with carved wooden images in the top) and take the first small road to the right. You're on the right track if you see a boat ramp ahead. If there is no parking, the National Park folks are really nice about letting folks park at entrance end of the park's parking lot. It's a short walk from there to the snorkling site. The park is really cool, too. You may want to leave gear in the car, check out the park (only $2.00 per person) and once you're hot and sweaty head back out to snorkle. Even if you don't walk through the park, if you use their lot it probably would be good karma to toss a couple bucks in the donation box.
